Amsterdam and Helsinki become first cities to launch AI registers explaining how they use algorithms

Amsterdam and Helsinki today became the first cities in the world to launch open AI registers that track how algorithms are being used in the municipalities. In a press release, the cities said the registers would help ensure that the AI used in public services operates on the same principles of responsibility, transparency, and security as other local government activities. “Algorithms play an increasingly important role in our lives,” said Touria Meliani, Deputy Mayor of Amsterdam. “Together with the city of Helsinki, we are on a mission to create as much understanding about algorithms as possible and be transparent about… This story continues at The Next Web from The Next Web https://ift.tt/2HFcjRZ

Lightroom’s new color-grading tools could change the way you edit your photos

Ahead of Adobe’s upcoming Max (virtual) conference, the company is teasing a new Lightroom tool that will provide photographers much more flexibility for editing the colors of their photos. I want it, now. Simply dubbed Advanced Color Grading, the tool upgrades the existing Split Tool feature, which lets you set different hues to the shadows and highlights. Advanced Color Grading instead gives you control over shadows, highlights, and midtones, with controls designed as color wheels rather than the previous slides. There’s also a separate global color wheel that can be applied on top of your other changes, as well as a… This story continues at The Next Web from The Next Web https://ift.tt/3jaXg0j

Google Maps is getting a UI for driving — and it looks a lot like Android Auto

If you use your Android phone as part of your infotainment system, you probably use Android Auto to control everything. But it looks like Google Maps is going to get a bunch of Android Auto-like features built into it natively. According to the folks over at Android Police, Google Maps is now showing music controls, voice assistant, and app icons within the app when it’s being used in navigation mode. It seems the Google Maps update borrows a lot from Android Auto’s user interface. When in navigation mode, two icons appear at the foot of the screen: one for voice… This story continues at The Next Web Or just read more coverage about: Android , Google Maps , Google from The Next Web https://ift.tt/2S8hhsd

The digital ad market grew this year while traditional markets tumbled. You’ll understand why after this

TLDR: The Digital Advertising and Marketing 101 Certification Bundle explains the big, wide world of online ads, all coming from a marketing expert himself. The COVID-19 pandemic has produced all kinds of financial winners and losers. Unfortunately, the tally does find mostly losers. Case in point, advertising dollars. A look at U.S. advertising dollars spent in 2020 is expected to end the year down about 30 percent from 2019’s figures. Yet one industry’s loss is another one’s gain as the surge in online traffic from our new stay-at-home/work-from-home world caused digital ad purchases to rise by 6 percent year over… This story continues at The Next Web from The Next Web https://ift.tt/340vKfu

Graphic design apps are now as fundamental as Excel — here’s how non-designers get up to speed

In today’s digital landscape, it’s critical to understand why design matters beyond the realm of the creative department. After all, marketing, branding, sales, business collaborations, and partnerships all hinge on the strength of a company’s branding and its consistency.  It’s no longer enough to have a couple of graphic designers to shoulder the burden of this responsibility. In the social media age, a truly successful brand needs seamless harmony across different platforms, whether it’s in traditional advertising, communications, or customer service.
