EU suggests law to stop Cambridge Analytica-style election meddling


The EU is drafting new legislation aimed at preventing a Cambridge Anlytica-type scenario happening in next year’s European Parliament elections. The Financial Times reports that the European Commission is preparing an amendment to existing party funding rules that would ban data collection à la Cambridge Analytica. The UK-based company mined millions of people’s Facebook data (without their consent), which was allegedly used to influence voters in the US and the UK. Why is Venus so inhospitable? ESA launches new mission to find out

The European Space Agency (ESA) has embarked on a new mission to explore our closest planetary neighbour Venus in unprecedented detail.  Known as EnVision, the spacecraft will study Venus from the planet’s inner core to its outer atmosphere, to help astronomers understand why the scorching, toxic world is so different from Earth.  Work will begin on the spacecraft and its instruments later this year, following the selection of an industrial contractor.
