It’s lonely being a female engineer — here’s how we fix it


In the male-dominated tech industry, being the sole female engineer or engineering leader on a team full of men can be lonely. More than 30% of women who have left the engineering profession cite organizational climate as their reason for leaving (SWE Research). My career has been spent in areas that are even more traditionally male – infrastructure, SRE/DevOps, and backend services. I have also run data centers and hardware engineering teams. Why is Venus so inhospitable? ESA launches new mission to find out

The European Space Agency (ESA) has embarked on a new mission to explore our closest planetary neighbour Venus in unprecedented detail.  Known as EnVision, the spacecraft will study Venus from the planet’s inner core to its outer atmosphere, to help astronomers understand why the scorching, toxic world is so different from Earth.  Work will begin on the spacecraft and its instruments later this year, following the selection of an industrial contractor.
