Ring’s surveillance partnership with law enforcement is deeper than previously thought


Amazon’s Ring has finally come clean about its partnership with law enforcement agencies in the US. The doorbell-camera company — which was acquired by the retail giant in February 2018 — disclosed that it has inked deals with 405 agencies to “facilitate conversations around crime and safety among all members of the community.” This is significantly higher than the number reported by Shreyas Gandlur, an engineering student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, who pegged it at 358. Why is Venus so inhospitable? ESA launches new mission to find out

The European Space Agency (ESA) has embarked on a new mission to explore our closest planetary neighbour Venus in unprecedented detail.  Known as EnVision, the spacecraft will study Venus from the planet’s inner core to its outer atmosphere, to help astronomers understand why the scorching, toxic world is so different from Earth.  Work will begin on the spacecraft and its instruments later this year, following the selection of an industrial contractor.
