When YouTube TV launched in 2017, it felt like the future of television. It provided the live playback nature of cable channels, with the convenience of also being able to watch later if you wanted. Last year, Apple expanded its security bounty program to include macOS after several years of offering the same for iPhone developers. But according to at least one researcher, the company isn’t acting quick enough on some exploits. Developer Jeff Johnson informed Apple about an exploit that allowed an attacker to steal private data with a malicious clone of Safari over six months ago. Once a user is tricked into downloading the malicious file, the Safari clone is given undue access by macOS. Any restricted file available to Safari then becomes available to the attacker. For almost as long as we’ve known about the Xbox Series X – even back when it was called Project Scarlett — we’ve also heard rumors of a second next-gen console codenamed ‘Lockhart’. OnePlus has consistently made some of the best bang-for-your-buck phones since its inception. Chinese EV maker, Xpeng, will start delivering its cheaper and rangier rival to Tesla‘s Model 3, the P7. According to a company announcement made last Sunday, Xpeng has started delivering the vehicle across China, South China Morning Post reports. A new MIT robot that uses UV light to kill the coronavirus could be used to disinfect warehouses, schools, and offices. The system has already been used to sanitize the Greater Boston Food Bank. In tests, the robot covered a 4,000 square foot area of the warehouse within 30 minutes, providing enough light to neutralize around 90% of coronavirus particles. Scientists from MIT‘s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL) designed the light-emitting vertical bars that shine UV light onto surfaces. Google Photos will no longer back up images and videos from folders created by messaging apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger — at least for the time being. Up until now, Photos did that by default, but that won’t be the case going forward. A television advert from VanMoof, an ebike maker based in the cycling motherland of the Netherlands, has been banned on French TV for a surprisingly contradictory reason. A friend told me the other day about an ad he saw on Facebook. In it, young people clad in an activewear company’s bikinis and shirts are seen frolicking on Rio’s crowded Ipanema Beach. “Unique vision of effortless lifestyle,” read the brand statement at the top. Tesla, or rather the company’s CEO Elon Musk, isn’t really a fan of LiDAR sensors when it comes to autonomous vehicles. So why has a Model S test mule recently been spotted with a LiDAR-based sensor arrangement? On a night filled with platforms booting out controversial forums and accounts, game streaming platform Twitch temporarily banned US President Donald Trump from the platform. The Amazon-owned company said that Trump‘s account was banned for broadcasting “hateful content” on his Twitch channel. The company said the content of two streams in particular lead to the ban. The first was a rebroadcast of a 2015 rally where Trump claimed that Mexico is sending rapists to the country, and the other stream was his June 20 rally at Tulsa with racist comments. Last night, India banned 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, Helo, and WeChat alleging that these apps steal data and send it to servers that are not located in India. Just a month after Hulu began testing an official ‘watch party’ feature, Amazon has decided to join the bandwagon. The company today began rolling out a beta of the feature (US-only, for now) that allows up to 100 viewers to participate in synchronized playback of a TV show or movie. Researchers at a US university have developed a new kind of radar which — when equipped with some AI wizardry — can help cars see round corners. Princeton university engineers have created a type of Doppler radar, typically used to catch speeding cars, that bounces radio waves off stationary objects to effectively “see” around corners. Political messaging can have a huge impact on public responses to crises. In the US, academics warn that divisions between Republican and Democratic lawmakers are wrecking efforts to contain the virus. Lawmakers in California have passed a new rule which requires all commercial trucks and vans to be zero-emission by 2045. One of the world’s biggest carmakers is calling time on producing internal combustion vehicles at one of its biggest factories in Germany. From now on, that factory will only produce electric cars — and it’ll claim the title of Europe’s largest electric vehicle plant. Women are highly underrepresented in the field of cybersecurity. In 2017, women’s share in the U.S. cybersecurity field was 14%, compared to 48% in the general workforce.
